Dr.K.K.Damodaran is an ardent devotee of Sree Narayana Guru, who was a great saint and social reformer. He is a silent and committed social worker fully focused on the foundations of Guru’s teaching of “one caste, one religion, one god for man, advancement of poorer section of society through education and industry, and gaining strength through organization.” His life is a living example of simple living and high thinking with a strong sense of commitment.

Dr.K.K.Damodaran was the founder Chairman of Sree Narayana Mandira Samiti, which was established in Mumbai in 1963 by a group of like minded people. The Objective of the Samiti is to promote and propagate the teaching of Sree Narayana Guru by establishing educational institutions, libraries, student homes, dispensaries, health centres, recreation facilities and the like on charitable lines for the benefit of general public, with special focus on children of poor people. It has been growing devotees of Sree Narayana Guru and it is today the largest Educational and Charitable committed devotees of Sree Narayana Guru and it is today the largest Educational and Charitable organization in the name of Sree Narayana Guru outside Kerala State. It has 12800 life members and 815 patrons and it is serving the society through 25 units and 17 Guru Centres spread over in Mumbai and Thane District including Navi Mumbai. It has got Schools of English and Marathi Medium, Commerce and Science Colleges at its Chembur complex. Around 5000 students are studying in these institutions. It is also having an international centre for Sree Narayana Guru Studies proving facilities for research on the philosophy, life and teachings of Sree Narayana Guru.

Dr.Damodaran by his selfless devotion and commitment nurtured Sree Narayana Mandira Samiti for the last 47 years by mobilizing funds and gathering support from a large cross section of people and organizations. He was its President for 40 years and presently its President Emeritus. He was instrumental for the sustained growth of the Samiti and its enviable status today as one of the prominent organizations bringing about social change through peaceful means.

Dr.K.K.Damodaran, who is 90 years of age, is full of dynamism and exudes charm. He is also an eminent scientist and was Head of Training Division at Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), Mumbai before his retirement in 1981.

A grand felicitation function was held on 4th November 2001 at Sree Narayana Guru School Complex, Chembur to honor Dr.K.K.Damodaran on his 80th birthday. Sri.G.Karthikeyan, Minister for Culture, Kerala State was the Chief Guest. The Minister in his address by quoting the words of Mahatma Gandhi declared that “Dr. Damodaran’s life is his message” amidst thunderous applause from the vast gathering. A large stream of admires, prominent citizens and representatives from various social and cultural organizations paid tributes and presented to him.

Dr.K.K.Damodaran is recipient of several awards recognitions from national and international organizations is recognition of his achievements to propagate the teachings and messages of Sree Narayana Guru and the social services rendered by him for the benefit of general public. Few of them are:

Award for social service by Sree Narayana World Council of New York at Sree Narayana Global Convention held in August 1999 at Hilton Parcippany, New Jersey, USA. Facilitation by Marol Education Society in December 2001 in function organized in Shanmukhananda Sabha Hall as the Malayalee Senior Citizen who had been in the forefront of continuous and sustained Social Service. Award by life time achievement in the field of science and social work by Dr.B.L.Mungaekar Vice-Chancellor of Bombay University at a function organized by “RAGADUHDA” in April 2002. Award by Sree Narayana Samiti, Bangalore at its Silver Jubilee function held in May 2002 for his outstanding contribution in spreading the message and teaching of Sree Narayana Guru. “Pathradhipar K.Sukumaran” award for best Sree Narayana Dharma Pracharakan in India by Sree Narayana Mission of India presented to him in October 2002 at a function held at Press Club,Trivananthapuram by the then Union Minister Shri.O.Rajagopal.

* Award by Shree Hariharaputra Bhajan Samaj, Chembur presented for his outstanding service in the field of Education at the Samaj Shakti awards function held at Shanmukhanada Sabha Hall on 22.05.2004.

* Felicitation by Sree Narayana Samiti, Bangalore with an award for his social work on 14.11.2004 on the occasion of the 150th Sree Narayana Guru Jayanth celebration.

* Felicitation by Gurudeva Kalavedi, Kollam during its Silver Jubilee Celebration in June 2005 by presenting a Shield in recognition of his outstanding contribution in propagating Sree Narayana Guru Philosophy and his excellent organizing Capacity. The shield was handed over by King Marthanda Varma of erstwhile Travancore State.

* “Guruvarsham” Award by SNDP Yogam branch at Matunga-Sion during its Guru Jayanti Celebration on 18.09.2005 for his outstanding contribution towards Social Service to tje Poor.

* “Sree Narayana Award” by T.R. Raghavan Educational and Charitable Trust in January 2006 consisting a Memento and cash award of Rs.25,000/-. The award was constituted to be given to persons who have done outstanding contributions in Scientific and Technological fields as well as in the field of propagating Sree Narayana Guru Philosophy .

* Felictation by Sree Narayana Guru Welfare Society and Elders Home at Trissur on 07.01.2006. for his outstanding services to the poor.

* “Kalakeralam Award” was Given on 27.03.2006 by Dr. Seerapani, an ardent devotee of Sree Narayana Guru in a function at Tiruvananthapuram.

* Pathanapuram Gandhi Bhavan Award received on 28.12.2006.

* Award by Mumbai-Thane SNDP Union during its Jayanti Celebration organized at Gurudevagiri, Nerul on 09.09.2007.

Dr.K.K. Damodaran was born on 31.10.1921 at Kadapramannar, Tiruvalla, Alappuzha, Kerala. he passed his B.Sc.(Honors) an M.A.Physics from St. Josephs College, Trichnapally i.e from Madras University 1948. In the same year he was appointed as Senior Lecturer in Physics in Sree Narayan College Kollam, Kerala. He actively assisted Shri.R.Sankar who was the then General Secretary of S.N.D.P Yogam and was instrumental in establishing a achain of educational institutions in Kerala based on the priciples and philosophy of Sree Narayana Guru. he did his higher studies in London University College and was awarded PhD in nuclear physics in 1954. He had also published several Research papers on the subject such as:

1)”Single scattering of fast electron by atomic nuclei.”
2)”Preparation of Scattering foils of Uranium.”
3)”Dissociation of Hydrogen ions(H)+ in gases.”

After getting Ph.D, he joined the Physics Department of Burmingham University as Research fellow, While in Burmingham University he was introduced to Dr. Homi Jehangir Bhabha in Cambridge University. Dr. Bhabha, who established the Atomic Energy Establishment Trombay (AEET) in 1954(later renamed as Bhabha Atomic Research Centre), offered the job as research officer to Dr.K.K.Damodaran. He happily accepted the offer for two reasons, viz,(1) He was fascinated by the criticality of the first research reactor  named APSARA in India.(2) He thought it to be a godd opportunity to revive his interest to do social work to promote the ideals of Sree Narayana Guru for the benefit of General Public. The rest is history with the establishment of Sree Narayan Mandira Samiti and its phenominal growth.

Dr.K.K. Damodaran joined AEET in October 1956 in the Nuclear Physics Division as Research officer under Dr.R.Ramanna. In 1957 he was appointed as the member Secretary of the Training School Co-0rdination committee thereby making him responsible for planning and implementation of the training strategy for grooming nuclear scientists and Engineers. He was made the Head of the Training Division in 1970 and was responsible for imparting training to Engineers and scientists.

He had trained about 3750 of them and many rose to top ranking positions later. Some of the prominent persons trained by him were Shri. Anil Kakodkar, A.N.Prasad, B.Bhatacherjee, S.Banerjee and R.K.Sinha.

Dr.K.K.Damodaran is married to Mrs. Saraswathi. The marriage was performed on 4 May 1959 at Sarada Temple, consecrated by Sree Narayana Guru, at Sivagiri Mutt, Varkala. She was a post graduate in Zoology with high Second Class. they have two children, Asha and Vinod. Asha passed her M.B.B.S. in general Mechanical Engineering from I.I.T., Mumbai and specialized in software Technology. Asha is working in a hospital in Saudi Arabia, Vinod is a Software Engineer in California, U.S.A.
